Five people, including the driver and four passengers, were killed on Monday morning in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Bhairab, Kishoreganj.

According to police and fire service at the scene, two of the victims have been identified, while the identities of the remaining three are yet to be confirmed.

The identified deceased include Shahin Mia (24), the driver from Pirojpur village in Raipur, Narsingdi, and Rajon Mia (22), a passenger.

The bodies of the three unidentified women have been taken to Bhairab Highway Police Station, reports UNB.

Local sources and police said that the CNG auto-rickshaw, carrying three women and one man from the Baroicha area of Belabo, Narsingdi, was traveling toward Bhairab. While crossing Brahmaputra Bridge, the vehicle was struck from behind by two covered vans coming from Dhaka. The impact caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn, resulting in the instant deaths of all five.

Following the accident, the drivers of the covered vans fled the scene, but the police managed to seize the vehicles.

Al Amin Mia, Fire Service Station Officer, confirmed that upon receiving the alert, the rescue team reached the site and transferred the bodies to Bhairab Highway Police Station.

Mohammad Shahin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, confirmed that two covered vans were seized, although the drivers remains at large.
