A collision involving five vehicles on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway near the Kamarkhola area in Munshiganj left at least 20 people injured on Monday morning, according to the fire service.

The identities of the injured individuals have not yet been confirmed.

The accident unfolded around 7 a.m. when a large covered van crashed into the back of a pickup truck. Moments later, a passenger bus from Imat Pariban collided with the van, causing a chain reaction. Shortly after, another truck collided with a bus from Purbaba Paribahan, leading to a pileup that resulted in at least 20 people being injured.

Upon receiving the alert, two fire service units quickly arrived at the scene. They rescued the injured and rushed them to nearby hospitals, as confirmed by Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service.

Due to the accident, traffic movement on the Dhaka-bound lane was severely disrupted, causing significant congestion.

Abdul Quader Jilani, Officer-in-Charge of Hasara Highway Police, reported that one of the trucks involved in the crash fled the scene. Efforts are underway to clear the wreckage of the remaining four vehicles and restore traffic flow.
