A collision occurred between two trains at Rajshahi Station on Saturday afternoon, caused by a signal point malfunction. The incident took place around 1:45 pm near the station's wash pit, involving the Padma Express and the Banglabandha Express, according to Rajshahi Railway Station Master Abul Kalam Azad.

The collision led to the derailment of the Banglabandha Express, which was moving from the wash pit towards the station, while the Padma Express was heading in the opposite direction, from the station towards the wash pit. The fault in the signal system caused the trains to meet at a dangerous point, resulting in significant damage to several coaches of both trains.

Thankfully, no casualties were reported as there were no passengers on board at the time of the accident. However, the crash led to a temporary suspension of train services on one of the tracks.

Due to the derailment, the Banglabandha Express fell onto the track used by the Dhaka-bound Padma Express. As a result, services for the Padma Express will remain suspended until a relief train arrives to clear the tracks and restore normal operations.

Bangladesh Railway has announced plans to run special trains for Ijtema attendees, though the collision has caused delays. Railway officials are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible to minimize disruptions to services.
