The collision occurred around 8:30 AM on Wednesday (April 2) near the Chunti area of Lohagara.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman confirmed the fatalities, though the identities of the deceased have not yet been revealed.
Reports indicate that the passenger bus, operated by Relax Transport, lost control while heading toward Chattogram. Despite the driver's efforts to stop the bus, it collided head-on with a microbus coming from the opposite direction toward Cox’s Bazar. The impact killed seven passengers in the microbus instantly, and five others were critically injured.
Rescue operations were carried out by the Lohagara Fire Service and local police, who rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
This tragic incident follows a series of accidents at the same location. On Eid day, Monday, five people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses at this very spot. On Tuesday, two microbuses also lost control and fell into a ditch, injuring eight people.
Local residents have reported that water spilled from a salt-carrying vehicle has made the road dangerously slippery, contributing to the frequent accidents along this stretch of the highway. Authorities are urged to take immediate action to prevent further tragedies.
