Mother, infant daughter electrocuted in Magura

A woman and her seven-month-old daughter died from electrocution while cooking rice at their home in Magura Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.


The deceased were identified as Setu Khatun, 30, and her daughter Anisha, residents of Tilla village under Moghi union.

Md Ripon Biswas, brother-in-law of Setu’s husband Awal Mollah, said the incident occurred around 8am when Setu came into contact with a live electric wire while using a rice cooker. She collapsed to the ground with Anisha in her arms.

Both were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Dr Omar Faruk of the hospital’s emergency department.

Officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station Md Ayub Ali said police visited the hospital upon receiving the information, reports UNB.
