Eight people suffered burn injuries after a gas cylinder caught fire during repairs at a house in Dinajpur town’s Kalitola area on Saturday afternoon.

The injured are identified as housewife Rubina (40), technician Riyad (20), Molab (30), Amisha (45), Shahjahan Kabir (20), Shirin Islam, Sazo (13), and Sajib (25).

Mahbub Alam, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said Rubina bought a new gas cylinder from a shop after the existing one ran out. As the replacement cylinder failed to function, she called the shop owner, who sent technician Riyad to inspect it.

During the repair work, the cylinder suddenly caught fire around 3:45pm, leaving Rubina and Riyad severely burnt. Hearing their screams, six others rushed to the scene and were also injured.

All the victims were taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment, the police officer said.

The shop owner, Badsha, informed that due to the absence of a dedicated burn unit at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, he is taking technician Riyad to Dhaka for better treatment, reports UNB.
