One dies, 20 hurt in LPG filling station explosion in Rangpur

One person was killed and some 20 others were injured in an explosion during repairing an LPG filling station at CO Bazar area in the city today.


The explosion occurred at 12:30 pm blowing up the LPG filling station and killing mechanic Selim Reza, 45, while he was repairing the gas reserve tank,” OC of Rangpur Kotwali thana Ataur Rahman told BSS.

Around 20 persons were injured, glass windows of the nearby houses were broken and the vehicles around the LPG filling station and even some transports moving on the nearby road were severely damaged in the incident.

Thirteen seriously injured persons were admitted to the burn and other units of Rangpur Medical College Hospital and others were given primary treatment.
 
Rangpur fire service official Badsha Masud Alam said they reached the spot immediately after the incident and sent the injured to Rangpur Medical. 

The cause of the explosion is being investigated, he said adding that process is underway to file a case in this connection.
