
The deceased were identified as Setara Begum, 85, daughter of late Asmat Ali of Tiket Para in Patuakhali Sadar upazila, and Md Araf, 8, son of Azharul Islam of Banasree of Dhaka.
Setara’s grandson Mehedi Hasan said a speeding private car crashed into her while crossing a road in Bashtala Masjid area in Dakshin Badda on Sunday evening, leaving her critically injured.
Primarily she was treated at a hospital in the Badda area and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where physicians declared her dead around 3am, he said.
She had been living with her family in the Badda area, Mehedi said.
Meanwhile, Abu Zafar, maternal uncle of Araf, said the housemaid was taking him to a specialised school in the Banasree area in the morning, reports UNB.
A speeding truck hit him in front of a private hospital leaving severely injured, he said.
The injured was rushed to the DMCH where physicians pronounced him dead, Zafar said.
Md Faruk, in-charge of the hospital police outpost, said the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
