Mother, daughter killed in Tangail road crash
A mother and her eight-month-old daughter were killed when a truck rammed into a stationary private car on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila of the district this evening.
The accident took place in the Gorai area of Mirzapur upazila this evening, according to police.
The deceased were identified as Sadiya Kabir, 32, wife of Jisan Kabir Tipu of Sonagazi upazila in Feni district, and their eight-month-old daughter Tajri Kabir Priyam.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station Sarowar Alam said a private car carrying passengers was heading towards Dhaka from the northern region.
"When the car stopped by the roadside in the Gorai area, a truck coming from behind hit the vehicle, leaving it mangled. As a result, the woman and her infant daughter died on the spot," the OC said.
The driver of the private car and two other passengers were injured in the accident and were admitted to Mirzapur Hospital for treatment, reports BSS.
After completing legal formalities, the bodies will be handed over to the family, police added.
