Two young men were killed late Saturday night after a truck carrying chickens slammed into their motorcycle in Shanir Akhra area of Jatrabari in the capital.

The victims were identified as Khairul Hossain Kamrul, 21, a college student, and his friend Mohammad Yasin, 25.

The accident occurred around 10:30 pm beneath Shanir Akhra overbridge, according to police and eyewitnesses.

Doctors declared Khairul dead at around 11:00 pm, while Yasin succumbed to his injuries at approximately 12:30 am during treatment.

Khairul's brother-in-law, Mohammad Mohsin, said Khairul was a second-year student at Bhashantek Government College. He hailed from Mahinanda Majhpara village in Kishoreganj district and had been living with his family at Staff Quarters in Dhaka.

Mohsin added that Khairul and Yasin were returning to Dhaka after attending a wedding in Lakshmipur when the fatal crash occurred.

Yasin, a motorcycle trader by profession, was from Charbangshi village under Raipur police station in Lakshmipur district. His father is Mohammad Faiz Uddin. Yasin had been residing in Bhashantek area of the capital.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed that the bodies have been kept at the DMCH morgue. He also said the truck involved in the accident has been seized, reports BSS.
