At least nine people were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a residential building in Halishahar area of Chattogram city early Monday.

Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Md Jasim Uddin said the explosion occurred around 5:45am on the third floor of a six-storey building in front of Abahani Club ground.

The explosion triggered a fire in the building, leaving seven people including women and children with burn injuries.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the scene but locals managed to douse the flames before their arrival, he said.

The identities of the injured could not be known immediately, reports UNB.

The extent of damage would be determined after investigation, the fire service official added.
