At least five people, including women and a child, were killed in a train accident in Kalihati upazila of the district this evening.

The accident occurred around 7:30 pm in the Dholatengor area.

Officer-in-Charge of Jamuna Bridge (East) Police Station Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

According to police, the deceased included two men, two women and one child. Their identities could not be confirmed immediately, but all of them were members of the same family.

Police said a Dhaka-bound bus had stopped near the Jamuna Bridge–Tangail–Dhaka highway due to a fuel shortage.

Several passengers got down from the bus and were standing near a railway level crossing in the Dholatengor area.

At that time, a Sirajganj Express train ran over them, killing all five on the spot, said Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of the Tangail Railway Station police outpost.

Law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and began rescue operations, reports BSS.
