‘That’s laughable’, State Dept says on US role in BD's mass protests

The US has rejected as "laughable" allegations that it played a role in the mass protests in Bangladesh, which led to the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5.

State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel dismissed the claims, stating, "Any suggestion that the United States was involved in Sheikh Hasina's resignation is absolutely false." Patel criticized the spread of misinformation and emphasized the US's commitment to upholding information integrity, particularly in South Asia.
Hasina, who had been in power for 15 years, resigned and fled to India amid the recent unrest.
