12-member core committee formed over HSIA fire

The government has formed a core committee headed by senior secretary of Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani to probe into the devastating fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka. 


The committee has been asked to submit its report before its next meeting on November 5.  

Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik confirmed the formation of the meeting while speaking to journalists after coming out of an inter-ministerial emergency coordination meeting held in the cabinet meeting room in Bangladesh Secretariat here.

 About the damage caused by the fire at the cargo village, he said, there is a fear of extensive damage in the fire and next course of action will be taken following recommendations of the probe report. 

The Disaster Management and Relief Minister presided over the meeting while Commerce and Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sk Bashir Udding and secretaries of various ministries were present at the meeting. 

The devastating fire was completely doused at 4:55pm today after 27 hours of frantic efforts, reports BSS. 

The fire originated at 2:30pm on Saturday.
