Honey collectors set up 5133 bee boxes in Jamalpur

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said they collected 5760 kilograms of honey from the mustard field in the district till December 27.



Honey collectors of Jamalpur district have set up 5133 bee boxes to collect honey from the mustard filed of the district during this current season.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said they collected 5760 kilograms of honey from the mustard field in the district till December 27.

According to the DAE sources, during the year of 2023-2024, the farmers in the district cultivated mustard on 39791 hectares of land but honey is being collected from the mustard fiend from 2440 hectares of land.

DAE office sources said 32 honey collectors from various districts set up bee boxes in all the seven upazilas in the district.

The office sources said, a total of 3520 kilograms (KGs) of honey was collected from 1323 bee boxes in Islampur Upazila while 150 KGs of honey from 1500 bee boxes in Melandah, 520 KG honey from 750 bee boxes in Sarishabari, 420 KG honey from 650 bee boxes in Dewanganj,350 KG honey from 420  bee boxes in Bakshiganj and 800 KG honey from 480 bee boxes in Madarganj Upazila.

Deputy Director of the DAE Zakia Sultana said honey collection will continue till January first week.
