The govt ensures access to quality seeds, fertilizers, & fair prices for produce.
Dhaka, Sept 25 - Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has emphasized the importance of making agriculture more farmer-friendly.
Speaking as the chief guest during a meeting with officials at the Directorate of Agricultural Extension in Dhaka, he stated that a farmer-friendly government ensures access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and fair prices for produce.
During the discussions, several recommendations were made, including ensuring the supply of fertilizers and seeds, cultivating fallow land, diversifying crops, increasing fruit production and exports, reducing urea fertilizer usage, and promoting crops suitable for post-flood lands.
The adviser also highlighted the need to bring arid areas under irrigation to enhance agricultural efficiency.
The agriculture adviser said that the Ministry of Agriculture has taken necessary steps to ensure that there is no shortage of fertilizers and urged field officials to keep farmers informed to alleviate any concerns.
He directed officials to focus on bringing uncultivated land into production to meet the food demands of the country’s growing population. Acknowledging the agricultural sector's success in ensuring food security, the adviser urged continued efforts to support farmers, who often struggle to receive fair prices for their products.
Regarding corruption, the adviser stated that strict measures have been implemented to prevent corruption in the agricultural sector.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Additional Secretary Dr. Malay Chowdhury and Director General (ongoing duty) of the Department of Agriculture Tajul Islam Patwari.
Later, the adviser visited various departments within the Directorate of Agricultural Extension.-UNB
