Dhaka, Mar 8 (UNB) – President of Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) Mashiur Rahman on Friday said they were working to produce antibiotic-free meat and eggs by 2030.
“A number of initiatives are underway. The use of antibiotic in the poultry industry has started to come down. Huge probiotics and prebiotics are being imported now,” he said while addressing a ceremony marking the distribution of awards among the winners of competitions.
Cooking contest, egg selfi and chicken selfi competitions were arranged as part of the three-day International Poultry Show that ends at International Convention City Bashundhara on Saturday.
World’s Poultry Science Association Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) and BPICC jointly organised the show.
Mashiur said eggs and chicken are naturally the safest source of nutrition. “There’s no alternative to poultry for living a healthy life,” he said.
WPSA-BB President Shamsul Arefin Khaled said the red meat – beef and mutton – is harmful for health according to physicians. “Chicken is the safest as a white meat,” he said.
Actress Bipasha Hayat also spoke on the occasion. She said she had a little bit doubt about chicken and eggs. “But later I came to know that chicken and eggs are completely safe.”
