Dhaka, Bangladesh — In celebration of Fête de la Musique 2026, Alliance Française de Dhaka, in collaboration with esteemed cultural and artistic partners, presents an exciting week-long programme of musical events from 10 to 13 June 2026, bringing together artists from Bangladesh, Brazil, Finland and France.
Rooted in the spirit of cultural exchange and artistic discovery, this year's celebration explores the diverse possibilities of rhythm, sound, and musical collaboration through workshops, live performances, and intercultural encounters. The programme offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience music across genres and traditions, ranging from electronic experimentation and percussion-based performances to Bossa Nova and contemporary interpretations of global musical heritage.
The festivities begin on 10 June with an Electronic Music Workshop led by French musician and percussionist Subhash Dhunoohchand at Butternote – A Jazz Café. The workshop will introduce participants to electronic music production, rhythm programming, improvisation, and innovative approaches to contemporary musical expression. Participation is subject to prior registration.
On 11 June, audiences are invited to enjoy BOSSA au Soleil Couchant – A Bossa Nova Experience at Sunset, featuring an ensemble comprising Mirva Tuulia (Finland), Áquila Lima (Brazil), Imran Ahmed, Towfiq Arifin, and Tanveer Haque (Bangladesh). The concert celebrates cultural dialogue through the elegant rhythms and melodies of Bossa Nova.
Later that evening, music enthusiasts can attend TABLATRONIC, an innovative live performance by Subhash Dhunoohchand at Goethe-Institut Bangladesh. Combining tabla, percussion, and electronic programming, the performance pushes the boundaries of contemporary rhythm and sound, creating an immersive musical experience where tradition meets technology. Entry to TABLATRONIC is subject to prior registration.
The celebrations continue on 12 June with A Celebration of Music by the Students and Teachers of Alliance Française de Dhaka, showcasing performances by students of the Piano and Guitar Workshops alongside musical presentations by the institution's teachers. The programme highlights the creativity, dedication, and artistic development of the Alliance Française community while paying tribute to the rich heritage of French music through a selection of beloved Francophone songs.
The afternoon will also feature a special performance by The Society, a newly formed ensemble bringing together musicians from diverse musical backgrounds and linguistic traditions. Blending jazz influences with songs in multiple languages—including French—the group offers a fresh and engaging addition to Dhaka’s contemporary music scene.
The same evening, renowned Bangladeshi musician Tapesh Chakraborty will perform live at Café la Véranda, offering audiences an intimate musical experience through a repertoire of captivating melodies and storytelling through song.
The celebrations culminate on 13 June with an afternoon and evening dedicated to musical diversity and intercultural exchange. Beginning at 3:00 PM, audiences will enjoy performances by a wide range of artists, including students of Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) and participants of the Subcontinental Classical Music Workshop, showcasing the richness of both contemporary and traditional musical practices.
The programme will conclude with Bangla Brasil: The Sound of the Universe, a dynamic percussion performance featuring Brazilian artist Áquila Lima and Bangladeshi musician Mithun Chakra. Drawing inspiration from the rhythmic traditions of both countries, the performance celebrates the universal language of percussion and the creative possibilities that emerge when cultures meet through music.
Fête de la Musique, originally launched in France in 1982, has become a global celebration observed in more than 120 countries, promoting music as a universal means of connection, expression, and cultural dialogue. Through this diverse programme, Alliance Française de Dhaka reaffirms its commitment to fostering intercultural exchange and making artistic experiences accessible to all.
