Art exhibition, Song of roots, begins at AFD, Gulshan.



The opening of the art exhibition by Shwasmul Arts titled ‘Song of Roots’ has begun at Alliance Française de Dhaka on Thursday, 21 September 2023 at 6 pm at the Gulshan branch (house 08, Road 07, Gulshan 1) of Alliance Française,  Dhaka.

"Song of roots” is a contemporary art exhibition presented by Shwasmul Arts, a contemporary art platform located in Khulna, Bangladesh. Over the past two years, they have engaged in community-based art practices along the coastal belt of southern Bangladesh. Their exhibition displays a selection of works from their collaborative artistic journey. This exhibition features a large number of outdoor installations created by various artists from Shwasmul Arts. Through the contemporary artworks, they are presenting the diverse stories of the community in the Sundarbans area. The installations address topics such as climate change and its impact on coastal communities, as well as include performing arts. Additionally, there are tapestry works and installations featuring local dolls that convey the unique living culture of the community. Shwasmul Arts also emphasizes the importance of nature and agriculture in the exhibition. The exhibition includes video presentations and community based art activities that represent their recent past works.

Moni Majhi and Bishwajit Roy coordinate the entire exhibition. Khandaker Nasir Ahmmed is a curator for the exhibition “Song of Roots”.

The exhibition will be open to all till Monday, 25 September 2023.
