The bomb disposal team has conducted a thorough search on the aircraft.
A bomb threat targeting a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Kathmandu triggered panic and emergency procedures at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday (11 July).
Flight BG373, a Boeing 737-800 scheduled to depart at 4:45 pm with 142 passengers and seven crew members on board, was moments from takeoff when an anonymous call claimed a bomb was onboard, according to official sources.
The threat call was received at 4:26 pm, prompting authorities to immediately halt the flight and activate high-alert protocols.
All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft and moved to the terminal lounge after security screening.
In response, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) launched an emergency operation. The Bangladesh Air Force Task Force, Aviation Security (AVSEC), and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) dog squad secured the aircraft and surrounding area.
Specialised bomb disposal units from the Air Force and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) carried out a thorough inspection of the aircraft and luggage. No explosives were found as of the latest update.
While passengers were understandably shaken, no injuries were reported.
Airport authorities confirmed that all other flight operations, including takeoffs and landings, continued as normal and the overall situation remained under control.
The flight to Kathmandu has been suspended pending full security clearance.
