Direct air connectivity between Dhaka and Karachi resumed on Thursday with the launch of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, marking a renewed step in regional aviation links.

The inaugural flight, BG-341, departed Dhaka at 8:15pm carrying 149 passengers and one infant on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

The reopening of the Dhaka–Karachi route follows a long suspension and is being viewed as a significant development in restoring direct air travel between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

An inauguration ceremony was held at the airport in the evening, attended by Adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Air S K Bashir Uddin, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dr Shafique Rahman, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof.

Officials said the resumption of direct flights is expected to boost bilateral ties by facilitating trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

They added that the renewed route will also offer passengers a more convenient and time-efficient travel option by reducing dependence on indirect connections.
