BB allows import of 8 essentials on deferred payment

The central bank has announced such facilities aiming to make supply of these commodities available during the upcoming Ramadan.



The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has allowed to import eight sorts of essential goods including date, sugar, oil and  chickpea.

The central bank has announced such facilities aiming to make supply of these commodities available during the upcoming Ramadan.

The Foreign Exchange Policy Department of the Bangladesh Bank issued a circular on Thursday in this regard, and it has been sent to authorised dealers of the banks.

Under the facility, the authorised dealers will be allowed to open letters of credit for the import of these goods on deferred payment terms up to 90 days under suppliers/buyers’ credit scheme.

The facility will remain applicable to the date of initiation of imports till March 31 in 2024.
