BB Governor painted a grim picture of financial sector

Dhaka, Dec 04 - Speaking as chief guest at a National Dialogue Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur today painted a grim picture about the country’s financial sector saying “we could not develop the stock market while insurance sector is still in bad shape”.

Giving suggestion to gear up the banking sector he said, “Compliance, supervision as well as good governance needed most to ensure better services to the customers”.

Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) has organized the National Dialogue on “Tipping Points of Reform Agenda for the Turnaround of the Banking Sector of Bangladesh” at its auditorium at Mirpur.

Stressing importance on information technology Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur informed that a 100 million dollar project will be taken up to ensure automation of the central bank. The project is expected to begin early next year.

BIBM Professor Dr Prashanta Kumar Banerjee presented the key-note paper at the programme, presided over by BIBM Director General Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.
