Smuggled Indian goods worth 1.9 cr seized at Sylhet border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today recovered a large quantity of smuggled Indian goods worth over Tk 1.90 crore during separate drives in border areas under Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).


Acting on intelligence, the drives were conducted in Banglabazar, Kalairag, Minatila, Sangram, Bichnakandi, Pratappur and Sripur, said a BGB press release.

The seized items included 7,264 kg cumin, 7,200 skin-brightening creams, 2,260 sunglasses, 28,944 biscuit packets, 3,450 creams, 1,701 gel items, 495 kg fish, a buffalo, 6,772 chocolates, 285 kg betel nut, 345 kg snacks, garments, toiletries, sugar, stones, a truck, a motorcycle, a trolley, and 41 bottles of Indian liquor.

The estimated seizure value stands at Tk 1,90,08,070.

Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Nazmul Haque said BGB remains vigilant to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking, adding that legal action will be taken regarding the seized goods, reports BSS.
