Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 10 kilogrammes of Indian cannabis and 186 bottles of Eskuf syrup in separate drives along the Chuadanga and Rajshahi borders today.

The seizures were made in separate anti-smuggling operations, according to press releases issued by the BGB this afternoon.

In Chuadanga, a team of Sultanpur Border Outpost (BOP) under Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) conducted an anti-drug operation at around 5:30 am at Jhajhadanga village, about 200 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Main Pillar No. 78/2-R.

The team recovered 10kg of Indian cannabis beside a road. The seized cannabis was valued at about Tk 35,000.

Meanwhile, acting on intelligence, a patrol team of Yusufpur BOP under Rajshahi Battalion (1 BGB) took position at Balurghat on the bank of the Muktarpur River under Charghat Police Station at around 12:50 am.

After waiting for some time, the patrol team spotted two persons crossing the international border and entering Bangladesh. When the BGB members chased them, one of them dropped a sack and both fled.

The patrol team later searched the sack and recovered 186 bottles of Indian Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine Phosphate Eskuf syrup, valued at about Tk 74,400.

The consignment was abandoned and no one was arrested. The process of handing over the seized goods to Charghat Model Police Station is underway.

BGB said intelligence activities are continuing to identify those involved in the smuggling and take appropriate legal action against them, reports BSS.
