BGB Arrests Bangladeshi with Foreign Currency at Panchagarh Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a Bangladeshi man on Thursday night for allegedly attempting to cross into India through the Panchagarh border with foreign currencies, according to BGB officials on Friday.


The arrested individual, identified as 47-year-old Faim Sayed Ahmed, hails from the Paschim Tallabagh area of Rayer Bazar in Dhaka.

Lt. Col. Monirul Islam, the commandant of BGB-18 Battalion in Panchagarh, confirmed that Faim was apprehended by a BGB patrol team around 9:30 PM while attempting to cross the Amtalli border in Sadar upazila. During the detention, the BGB team seized a mix of local and foreign currencies, including those from the US, India, and China, amounting to approximately Tk 55,888. Additionally, two mobile phones were found in his possession.

Faim has been handed over to the Panchagarh Sadar police station, where a case has been filed against him.

Lt. Col. Islam assured that BGB operations to curb infiltration, smuggling, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities will continue.
