Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended nine Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, on Monday afternoon while they were allegedly attempting to illegally cross the Benapole border from India.

The detainees—three men, four women, and two children—were identified as Milon Molla, 27, Saidul Islam, 27, Shimul Hossain, 32, Karimon Bibi, 50, Jannat, 24, Bannya Khatun, 22, Shohagi, 2, Halima Khatun, 4, and Sowaifa, 60. All hail from Narail and Jashore districts.

According to Subedar Abdul Gani, the commander of the BGB camp at Benapole, the arrests were made near the Jellepara outpost in the Dhanaykhola area under Benapole. A BGB patrol team stationed at Jellepara post intercepted the group as they tried to enter Bangladesh from India without proper documentation.

The detainees were subsequently transferred to the Benapole Port Police Station, where legal proceedings were initiated against them. Authorities have filed a case, and further investigations are underway.

Additionally, a separate incident was reported at the Cumilla border, where the BGB also detained an Indian national for illegal entry into Bangladesh.
