A Bangladeshi national named Shafikul Islam, 45, was killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Doara border of the district.

The incident took place at around 1.20 am Saturday in the border pillar area number 1216 of Doarabazar upazila.

Shafikul Islam was son of Kitab Ali of Bhangapara village under Lakshipur union of the upazila.

Locals said that the BSF opened fire on some cattle traders while they were crossing the border. Shafiqul Islam was seriously injured in the fire and he was taken to Doarabazar Hospital where he died at 2.30 am.

Zakaria Qadir, commander of the 28 Rifles of the BGB, said that around 1.20 am 10-12 Bangladeshis entered 500 yards inside India through Bhangapara on the Doarabazar border to bring cows.
