Despite progress in the second round of trade talks between Bangladesh and the United States, several issues remain unresolved, said Golam Mortoza, press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, on July 12.
In a Facebook post, Mortoza stated that both sides agreed internal inter-ministerial consultations would be necessary before advancing to the next negotiation phase. These discussions are expected to occur virtually and in person, with dates for the next round to be finalized soon.
On the final day of talks, both countries reached agreements on several points, but some matters still require further deliberation.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman remain hopeful of a positive outcome within the expected timeline. However, Mortoza emphasized that no definitive statements can be made until a formal agreement is reached.
Bashir Uddin, accompanied by other officials, is scheduled to return to Dhaka but may return to Washington for further discussions if needed.
