The government has announced new prices for salt-applied rawhides of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, increasing the price of cowhide by Tk2 per square foot compared with last year.

The new rates were announced on Wednesday by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir at a press briefing in Dhaka.

Under the revised pricing structure, salt-applied cowhide prices in Dhaka have been fixed at Tk62 to Tk67 per square foot. Outside the capital, the rates have been set at Tk57 to Tk62 per square foot.

The prices of goat hides have been fixed at Tk25 to Tk30 per square foot across the country, while she-goat hides will be sold at Tk22 to Tk25 per square foot.

The commerce minister also said the government will distribute salt worth Tk17.60 crore free of charge across the country to help preserve rawhides during the Eid season.
