Power Grid Bangladesh PLC is expected to see a major increase in revenue after the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) raised electricity transmission tariffs, commonly known as wheeling charges.
According to a price-sensitive disclosure issued on Wednesday, the revised tariff structure will take effect from the June 2026 billing cycle.
The new rates represent an increase of nearly 23 to 24 percent across different voltage levels, significantly boosting transmission earnings for the state-run power transmission company.
Power Grid Bangladesh estimates that the revised tariffs could raise its annual transmission revenue by around Tk700 crore, although the final impact will depend on overall electricity generation and demand.
The company earns most of its income by transmitting electricity through the national grid to distribution companies, which pay wheeling charges for using the transmission network.
Under the revised structure, the wheeling charge for 230 kV transmission lines has increased from Tk0.3057 to Tk0.3789 per kilowatt-hour. The rate for 132 kV lines has risen from Tk0.3086 to Tk0.3825, while the 33 kV rate has gone up from Tk0.3184 to Tk0.3897 per kilowatt-hour.
Market analysts view the tariff revision as a positive development for the company, as higher wheeling charges are expected to strengthen cash flow and improve earnings stability.
