7 businesses fined Tk 1.5 lakh in Sylhet consumer rights drive

Sylhet, Mar 8 — The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined seven businesses a total of Tk 1.5 lakh during a drive against irregularities at several clothing and footwear shops in Kumarpara area of Sylhet city on Sunday.

The drive was conducted from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

According to consumer rights officials, action was taken against several establishments, including Barton, Easy, Milan, Hidayah and Clubhouse, for using double price tags on products and failing to show valid documents for imported goods.

Assistant Director of the Sylhet Divisional DNCRP office, Md Arif Mia, said the fines were imposed for various irregularities and illegal practices.

After the drive, DNCRP Deputy Director Md Arif Murshed Mishu said similar operations would be carried out at other high-end clothing stores in the city in phases.

Assistant Director of the Sylhet District DNCRP office Debananda Sinha and a team from RAB-9 also took part in the operation. - UNB
