
Secondary school students admitted to a hospital in Kalapara after falling ill in the classroom on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Patuakhali: Ten students from Chakamaiya Betmor Secondary School in Kalapara, Patuakhali, fell ill while attending classes. On Wednesday afternoon, the students began falling ill one after another inside their classrooms. They were subsequently taken to the Kalapara Upazila Health Complex and admitted for treatment.
The affected students are Taifa (Class 8), Zakia Sultana (Class 10), Nusrat Jahan (Class 8), Maria (Class 7), Mim (Class 10), Labia (Class 7), Nusrat (Class 10), Sanjida (Class 10), and Sadia (Class 8).
The school's Headmaster, Md. Mahabub Ullah Liton, stated that Zakia Sultana (Class 10) was the first to suddenly fall ill. Several students who stepped forward to assist her also fell ill one by one. Eventually, a total of ten students were taken to the Kalapara Upazila Health Complex.
A similar incident had previously occurred at Dhankhali MU Secondary School in the same upazila, where several students fell ill.
Dr. Saiful Islam, the physician on duty at Kalapara Hospital, said that, preliminarily, it appears they are suffering from mass psychogenic hyperventilation. However, none of them are in critical condition. - Gofran Palash
