At least seven crude bombs exploded at different locations on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Sunday evening, with three people detained following an explosion near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).

The explosions occurred at different times around 6:30pm at the TSC, beside the university's administrative building, at the VC Chattar and in front of the Mukti O Gono Tontro Toron near Nilkhet.

According to eyewitnesses, two crude bombs exploded in quick succession in the TSC area. Several more explosions were subsequently heard beside the administrative building, at VC Chattar and in front of the Mukti O Gono Tontro Toron. Eyewitnesses also reported hearing explosions in the Shahbagh area.

Sajjadur Rahman, senior joint convener of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal's Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit, said an explosion was first reported towards Suhrawardy Udyan. Later, after another explosion near the TSC gate beside the metro rail station, several people were seen fleeing the scene. Chhatra Dal activists then detained two people, he said.

DU Proctor Professor Israfil Ratan told UNB that students detained three people following the cocktail explosion in the TSC area and handed them over to the proctorial team.

They were taken to the proctor's office and later handed over to Shahbagh Police Station, he said, adding that the university authorities were trying to assess the situation by examining CCTV footage, reports UNB.
