53rd DU convocation held with 30,348 participants

Dhaka University (DU), the oldest university in Bangladesh, was held its 53rd convocation amid festive moods on Saturday.



Dhaka University (DU), the oldest university in Bangladesh,  was held  its 53rd convocation amid festive moods with the participation of 30,348 graduates and researchers on its campus in the city.

The convocation began at 12 pm on Saturday.

Graduates in convocation outfits were flocking to the campus since morning. They were seen taking photographs with their classmates, friends and teachers.

The university campus has been decorated with colourful banners, festoons, placards and arches.

DU-affiliated seven colleges are participating in the convocation ceremony from two venues - Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College- through video conferencing.

Of the participants, a total of 22,287 students are participating on the venue of Dhaka University and as many as 7,796 students are participating in the Dhaka College and Eden College venues.

A total of 131 meritorious teachers, researchers and students are being awarded 153 gold medals, 97 PhD, two DBA and 35 MPhil degrees.

President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, is presiding over the gala event at the central playground.

Nobel Laureate French Economist Dr Jean Tirole has attended the program as convocation speaker.

The first convocation of the DU was held on February 22, 1923.
