Several people were injured in a clash between Begum Rokeya University (BRU) students and locals over an altercation on Thursday night.

The clash took place from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, leaving traffic movement closed on Dhaka-Kurigram highway.

According to sources, on Thursday night outsiders tried to take away a student over a previous altercation during a ‘Pitha Festival’.  But university students obstructed them and locked into a clash with them.

Later, being informed, police reached the spot and used tear shells to disperse them.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Maruf Hossain said additional police have been deployed there.
