He was identified as Dhruva Brata Das (18), an HSC examinee from the Science group.
The incident took place inside the college premises on Monday noon, on the day students were scheduled to collect their admit cards for the examination.
The victim’s father, Bani Brata Das, said he was waiting outside the college gate for his son. “After a while, the gate opened and several students came out carrying my son in critical condition,” he said.
“They initially took him to a nearby hospital and later transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 4:15 pm.”
Confirming the matter, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, and the local police station has been informed.
Dhruva was the elder of two sons of Bani Brata Das, hailing from Madhyapara village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila in Gaibandha distruct. He had been living with his family in Gopibag area of the capital, reports UNB.
His father said he had no idea how his son fell from the building. “I had just spoken to him over the phone, and he said it would take him 5 to 10 minutes to come out,” he added.
A fellow student, Nafiz Madad Rahman, said, “We suddenly heard a loud sound and rushed outside to find him lying on the ground, bleeding. We rescued him and took him to the hospital. We suspect he may have accidentally fallen from a balcony.”
Police are investigating the incident.
