Police on Tuesday night detained a student of Khulna University (KU) allegedly for physically harassing a teacher on May 2.

The detainee is Mohammad Mobarak Hossain Noman, a Bangla department student of the university.

He was detained from Khulna Medical College Hospital area around 10pm, said Sonadanga police station’s officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam.

Earlier on May 3, the 231st syndicate meeting of the university suspended him and restricted his entrance to the campus.

Besides, his graduation degree certificate was suspended until the full-fledged decision comes in this regard.

On May 2, student Noman allegedly attacked Hasan Mahmud Saki, a lecturer of History and Civilization discipline, near the university’s old administrative building, triggering outrage on the campus.

Students staged a protest in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence on May 3, reports UNB.
