SAU Newsletter: Inter-semester Cricket Tournament Held

The Inter-semester cricket tournament of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka was held on 16 May, 2025 in the central play-ground of the university. Organized by the Physical Education Department, the final match of the 9-day tournament featuring 13 matches was held between Level-3 Semester-1 and Level-2 Semester-2. Level-2 Semester-2 won the toss and chose to bat first. In the allotted 16 overs, they scored 197 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. On the other hand, Level-3 Semester-1 secured victory by scoring 199 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, hitting two consecutive sixes on the 3rd and 4th balls of the final over.

Dewan Fazlul Haque Ahad, a student of Level-3 Semester-1, was named Man of the Tournament, and Md. Riyad Mia from the same level was awarded Man of the Match.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the prizes to the champion and runner-up teams.

The special guests included the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain, Treasurer Professor Md. Abul Bashar, Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Professor Dr. Md. Ashabul Haque, and Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Arfan Ali.

The event was conducted by the Additional Director of the Department of Physical Education, Md. Salauddin. Among others present was the Director of TSC, Professor Md. Akhtar Hossain.

A huge number of teachers, students, officers and staff of SAU enjoyed watching the final match. It was presided over by the Director of the Department of Physical Education, Professor Md. Nuruddin Mia.

SAU Shada Dal New Committee Formed

Prof. Md. Abul Basher and Prof. Mosammat Nur Mahal Akhter Banu were elected president and general secretary

A new 21-member executive committee of the ‘Shada Dal’ (White Panel), a Forum of teachers inclined toward BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) has been formed at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU).

Professor Mohammad Abul Bashar of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Information System has been elected as the President, while Dr. Mosammat Nur Mahal Akhter Banu from the Department of Entomology as the General Secretary.

Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Sarker from the Department of Agricultural Statistics and Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahbub Islam from the Department of Agricultural Botany have been appointed as Vice Presidents.

In addition, Professor Md. Abdul Latif from the Department of Agricultural Statistics has taken charge as Treasurer. Professor Dr. Ashrafi Hossain from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Professor Dr. Jasim Uddin from the Department of Horticulture have assumed the role of Joint General Secretaries.

The executive members include—Prof. Dr. Md. Razzab Ali (Entomology), Prof. Md. Nuruddin Mia (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology), Prof. Dr. F. M. Initiative to end semesters in due time

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Latif of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) has taken a bold initiative to end semesters in due time. In this connection, all the Faculty Members, Controller of Examinations, Deans, Chairmen, Hall Provosts and all other concerned Officers and Staff have been working with total devotion and dedication to realizing goal of the Initiative. As an outcome, some of the examinations’ result has been published in just time allowing the following semester to begin as per academic schedule. VC Prof. Latif has expressed his firm hope that the SAU would soon succeed in removing the session gap and academic order to be restored in all the disciplines.
