The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) suspended an activist of BNP’s student wing Chhatra Dal on charge of threatening attack on students inside a residential hall.

The activist is Sheikh Fakabbir Shin, a 2022–23 session student of Oceanography department and reportedly close to the university unit Chattra Dal General Secretary Naeem Sarkar.

Fakakbbir resides at a student mess outside the campus. Though he was suspended on May 17, the matter came to light on Wednesday.

Proctor Mokhlesur Rahman said the decision was made during the university’s 236th syndicate meeting on May 17, reports UNB.

“The disciplinary committee recommended the action based on the investigation report, which found the allegations against Fakabbir to be credible,” he said.

On January 5, Fakabbir reportedly entered room No-436 of Shah Paran Hall and threatened students with a knife. In response, the university formed a four-member probe body led by Director of Student Welfare Md Ishak Mia on January 9.
