UN delegation calls on RU VC

A delegation from the United Nations (UN) in Bangladesh led by its Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis called on Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib at the latter's office here today.


UN Women representative Gitanjali Singh, Head of UN Resident Coordinator's office Louise Barber and UN Women Bangladesh Officer Syeda Samara Murtada were the delegation members.

Dhaka University Students Leader Umama Fatema and RU Students Leader Tasin Khan accompanied them. 

During the meeting, both the sides talked about the RU course and curriculum, particularly focusing on women empowerment and engagement and mainstreaming of young women leadership in the present post-revolution 2024 time.

VC Prof Saleh Naquib apprised the UN delegation about different measures taken by the university authorities regarding more women participation in their academic activities along with resisting harassment and teasing against women.

In the meeting, UNRC Gwyn Lewis expressed eagerness to extend cooperation towards women empowerment and combating violence against women on the campus.  

RU Pro-VCs Prof Mayeen Uddin and Prof Farid Uddin Khan, Proctor Mahbubur Rahman, Students Adviser Amirul Islam and Director of the office of international affairs Prof Sazzadur Rahim, among others, were present, reports BSS.
