The Dhaka University (DU) unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, has announced the formation of new convening committees for 18 halls across the university. The move comes as part of a reorganisation effort, dissolving previous committees and appointing fresh leadership teams.
According to an official press release issued by JCD on Friday, the new committees were approved by DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon. A total of 593 students have been entrusted with leadership roles within these newly formed hall committees, reflecting the organisation's efforts to strengthen its presence and coordination at the university.
The announcement detailed the leadership of each hall, showcasing a wide representation of student leaders across both residential and academic halls.
For instance, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall’s 51-member committee is led by Convenor Md Zahidul Islam, with Rizvi Alam as senior joint convenor and Zubayer Hossain serving as member secretary. Kabi Jasimuddin Hall’s 43-member committee is headed by Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim as convenor, supported by Abdul Wahed and Mehedi Hasan in senior joint convenor and member secretary roles respectively.
Other halls like Masterda Surja Sen, Bijoy Ekattor, and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also announced robust committees, each with designated convenors, joint convenors, and secretaries. For example, Monowar Hossain Pranto leads Masterda Surja Sen Hall’s 47-member committee, while Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed and Sultan Md. Sadman Siddiq head the Bijoy Ekattor Hall team.
Similarly, Salimullah Muslim Hall’s 18-member committee and Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall’s 56-member group have their own leadership, ensuring all student residential spaces are well represented.
Smaller halls and women’s halls also saw new committee formations, with names such as Sraboni Akter at Rokeya Hall and Maliha Binte Khan at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall highlighted in the announcement.
The committees are expected to play a pivotal role in coordinating student activities, representing student interests, and bolstering JCD’s influence in university affairs over the coming academic year.
This large-scale reorganisation underscores JCD’s strategic efforts to consolidate its organisational structure within Dhaka University’s vibrant student community, setting the stage for active political engagement and participation in campus governance.
