880 students submit nomination papers for RUCSU polls

A total of 880 students have submitted nomination papers for the upcoming elections to Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU), Hall Councils, and student representatives to the Senate. 


Chief Election Commissioner Prof F Nazrul Islam said 260 students filed papers for 23 RUCSU posts, 62 for five Senate seats, and 558 for 17 Hall Council posts by the 5 pm deadline on Sunday. 

Earlier, 395 students had collected nomination forms for RUCSU posts, 84 for Senate, and 754 for Hall Council positions.

In the RUCSU election, 20 students are contesting for the Vice President (VP) post, 15 for General Secretary (GS), and 16 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS). Nine students filed for Sports Secretary, six for Assistant Sports Secretary, 11 for Cultural Secretary, nine for Assistant Cultural Secretary, seven for Women Secretary, and eight for Assistant Women Secretary.

In addition, 13 students submitted nomination forms for Information and Research Secretary, eight for Assistant Information and Research Secretary, 10 for Media and Publication Secretary, 10 for Assistant Media and Publication Secretary, nine for Science and Technology Secretary, eight for Assistant Science and Technology Secretary, nine for Debate and Literary Secretary, six for Assistant Debate and Literary Secretary, 12 for Environment and Social Welfare Secretary, 18 for Assistant Environment and Social Welfare Secretary, and 56 for four Executive Member posts.

The RUCSU election will be held on September 25, marking the historic return of student representation at RU after 35 years.

According to the revised schedule, nomination forms were distributed till September 3 and submission closed on September 7. Scrutiny is set for September 8 and 9. The preliminary candidate list will be published on September 10, while objections will be received and settled on September 11.

Candidates may withdraw their papers on September 13, and the final list will be published on September 14. Polling will take place in the university's academic buildings from 9 am to 4 pm on September 25.

Necessary preparations for the long-awaited RUCSU elections are going on in full swing on the campus.

Meanwhile, the Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) announced its 23-member panel for the polls. JCD Central Organizing Secretary Amanullah Aman made the announcement at a function at the RU Central Shaheed Minar at noon on Sunday.

According to the announcement, RU JCD Vice-President Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir will contest for the post of RUCSU Vice-President (VP). Office Secretary Nafiul Islam Zibon will vie for General Secretary (GS), while Joint General Secretary Zahun Biswash will contest for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).

On the other hand, the RU unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) also declared its 23-member panel the same day. ICS Central Social Service Secretary Abdul Mohaimin announced the panel at a function in front of RUCSU Bhaban in the afternoon on Sunday, reports BSS. 

As per the ICS panel, RU unit President Mostakur Rahman Zahid will contest for Vice-President (VP). Fahim Reza will run for General Secretary (GS), while Salman Sabbir will contest for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
