Bangladesh make winning start in FIDE Chess Olympiad

Dhaka, 17 Sept - Bangladesh made a winning start in both the Open and Women's sections, securing victories in their respective first-round matches of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad now being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. 

In the Open section, Bangladesh defeated Equatorial Guinea by 3.5-0.5 game points. For Bangladesh, FIDE Master (FM) Tahsin Tazwar Zia, Grandmaster (GM) Niaz Murshed, and FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid defeated Equatorial Guinea's Gatjens Capche, Angel Estanislao; Naranjo Gonzalez Oscar and Nguema Oye Eugenio Ndemesogo respectively. 

International Master (IM) Mohammad Fahad Rahman drew his game against Equatorial Guinea's Mompel Ferruz, Xavier.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's women's team began their campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Niger. International Woman Master Waadifa Ahmed, Women FIDE Master Noshin Anjum, Women Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed and Women Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo defeated Niger's Leila Aicha Mahamadou, Zeinabou Boubacar, Zakari Abdou Yasmina and Koundou Ballama Magaram Malaram, respectively.

A total of 202 teams from 200 countries are competing in the Open section while 186 teams from 184 countries are taking part in the women's section.BSS
