Inter University team chess begins

Dhaka, 14 Sept -The Inter University team chess tournament has begun from Thursday at chess sports room of National Sports Council old building, said a press release.

Dhaka University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest, organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation and Sports Bangla and sponsored by Great Wall Ceramic Industries Limited.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim presided over the opening ceremony.

Former managing director of Pally Savings Bank Khandaker Ataur Rahman, Bangladesh Swimming Federation general secretary M.B. Saif were present as special guests.

Dhaka District Sports Association General Secretary and Bangladesh Chess Federation Executive Committee Member Zakir Ahmed, Sports Bangla President Md. Arifuzzaman Arif, Association of Chess Players, Bangladesh General Secretary Md. Shawket Bin Osman Shaon and Great Wall Ceramic Industries Limited executive corporate sales Md. Jabed Ahmed were also present there.

The game started immediately after the opening ceremony. A total of 12 teams from different universities are participating in the seven-round Swiss-league format event.

A total of Taka two lacs cash prize money will be given to winners.
