International Mother’s Day is celebrated in various parts of the world in the second Sunday of May every year. This year has been celebrated on May 14, 2023. The objective of Mother’s Day celebration is to acknowledge the contributions of mothers to the family and the society. Mothers deserve respect and honor round the year not just in a particular day. However, on this day, we pay a formal respect and gratitude to mothers for their unconditional love, care and guidance in shaping our lives, The World appreciates the role of mothers as preceptor to their beloved children.
Happy Mother's Day
The celebration of Mother’s Day began in 1908 when a peace activist Anna Javis organizes a memorial for her mother. With Anna Javis continuous efforts the United States in 1914 officially proclaimed second Sunday of May as the Mother’s Day. Many other countries of the world started celebrating the Mother’s Day. In Bangladesh too, the Mother’s Day is celebrated with due honor and gaiety.
The theme of the International Mother’s Day 2023 is to ‘acknowledge the idea of motherhood’.
Meanwhile it is unfortunate that mothers are often deprived of their due respects and rights. Sometimes they are not provided with necessary love and care; particularly in old age they becomes a burden to the family and in many cases, they are thrown out of the house or sent to ‘Bridhassrom’ (old-age home) by their wards making them waif.
On this Mother’s Day, let us take a solemn promise to always pay proper honor and respect to our mothers and keep desisting ourselves from hurting their love and feelings.
And let us pray for our beloved mothers who are no more with us on this earth and whom we deeply missed on Mother’s Day for the eternal peace of their departed soul and to be a star on the sky in heaven.
