At least five people are killed in Houthi missile strikes near the al-Maashiq presidential palace in Aden, in the latest exchange of attacks between the group and the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Yemen’s health minister said on Thursday that five people were killed and 16 others injured. Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said the Houthis targeted the palace, the seat of Yemen’s internationally recognised government, with five missiles.

The government said the prime minister and other officials were safe, but two of his bodyguards were killed.

The strikes come after a run of attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Saudi-led coalition says King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has come under at least 20 Houthi attacks in the past 11 days, with dozens of other airports, oil facilities and ports also targeted.

It says the attacks have killed 17 people and injured more than 300.

Al Jazeera’s Yousef Mawry, reporting from Sanaa, said the group had attacked the recognised government’s headquarters for the first time, reports AL Jazeera.

“This is an indication that the escalation is going to intensify between both sides,” he said, adding that fears are growing of “an all-out civil war” that could drag in other regional powers.
