Female garment worker dead, 50 injured in Ashulia clash

A female garment worker was killed and over 50 other workers were injured in a clash among workers of three garment factories at Jirabo in Ashulia  on Tuesday.


The deceased was identified as Rokey Begum, wife of Masud Rana of Gudarhat area of Gaibandha sadar upazila.

Workers said workers took position in front of Muscot Garment demanding reopening of the factory.

As police and army personnel disperse them the agitated workers hurled brickbats at Southern and Radiance factories, triggering a clash among workers of the three factories that left over 50 others wounded.

The injured were rushed to PMK Hospital where doctors declared Rokeya dead. The other injured victims were admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the area.

Police Super of Ashulia Industrial Police-1 Sarwar Alam said army personnel are patrolling the area to maintain law and order.

Workers of most of the factories except 18 have joined work in Ashulia since morning, reports UNB.
