US President Donald Trump has warned Iran it could face strikes on its power infrastructure if it fails to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, marking a sharp escalation in tensions.

In a social media post, Trump said the United States would “obliterate” key power plants if Tehran does not allow safe and unrestricted passage through the vital waterway, which handles a significant share of global oil and gas supplies.

The warning comes as shipping through the strait remains severely disrupted, raising fears of a global energy shock. Prices have already surged amid concerns over supply shortages.

The conflict has also intensified militarily. Israeli officials said Iran launched long-range missiles for the first time in the war, with some reportedly capable of reaching parts of Europe. Strikes were also reported near southern Israeli cities, leaving dozens injured.

According to Israeli authorities, Iranian missiles targeted areas near key military installations, while air defence systems failed to intercept some of the incoming attacks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the situation as a critical moment in the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, Iran reportedly launched missiles toward a US-UK military base in the Indian Ocean, further widening the scope of the confrontation. Fighting has also spilled into other regions, with strikes reported in Lebanon and across Iranian territory.

The war, now in its fourth week, has killed more than 2,000 people and heightened fears of a broader regional conflict. Trump’s latest ultimatum contrasts with earlier remarks suggesting a possible de-escalation, adding to uncertainty among US allies.

As tensions rise, global concerns are mounting over energy supplies, economic fallout, and the risk of further escalation across the Middle East and beyond.
