ACC Files Case Against Nine for Embezzlement of Funds

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated legal proceedings against nine individuals, including the Civil Surgeon of Pirojpur and the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Zilla Hospital, for allegedly embezzling funds by submitting false receipts for medicines and medical supplies worth approximately Taka two crore during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.


According to a press release issued today by Md Moazzem Hossain Samrat, Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC’s Pirojpur Integrated District Office, the case was filed on February 20. The legal action follows instructions from the ACC’s Dhaka office and was carried out by Md Sharif Sheikh, the Deputy Assistant Director of the Pirojpur office.

The accused individuals include:

   1. Dr. Md Mizanur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Pirojpur
   2. Dr. Farhana Rahman, Senior Consultant (Gynaecology) at the district hospital
   3. Dr. Md Nizam Uddin, Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
   4. Dr. Suranjit Kumar Saha, Junior Consultant
   5. Md Al Amin Gazi, Storekeeper
   6. S M Shamsul Arefin
      7. Md Haniful Islam
     8. Zahirul Islam
     9. Md Rasheduzzaman Ershad, all contractors responsible for the supply of medicines.

The accused are alleged to have manipulated official receipts and paperwork to divert significant sums of money meant for medical supplies, contributing to a large-scale fraud that undermines public trust in healthcare procurement processes. The investigation continues, with the ACC pursuing all legal avenues to address the corruption.
